What you need: Qubicle Constructor v1.07+

Since version 1.07 Qubicle Constructor is able to render turntable animations like the one above to a single animated GIF. Creating such animations is really easy. Learn how to do it in less than 5 minutes with this brief tutorial.

Step 1: Create a cube model with the Qubicle Constructor

First of all you need a cube model. To create a cube model use the Qubicle Constructor. You can download the free basic edition here. To learn how to use the Constructor read the getting started tutorial.

Model

For this tutorial i’ll use a model created by Maria Mochi. Have a look at her showcase Nokotoba.com Site Design.

Step 2: Adjust the render settings

Open the Render Settings dialog with Render > Render Settings.

Render Settings

Adjust the render resolution and the background color of the output image. You can also change how many frames the animation will use for one turn and the delay between frames. Play around with these values but remember more frames mean a larger image size.

Step 3: Preview the turntable animation

To center the camera on your model select your model with the mouse and choose View > Frame Selected Matrix from the menu. Next turn on the resolution gate and the turntable by clicking on the corresponding buttons:

Preview

Now you can preview the turntable animation. Adjust the camera zoom until all parts of your model are inside the resolutuion gate.

Step 4: Render

To render your turntable select Render > Render Turntable As from the main menu and choose Animated GIF as filetype. The result will look something like this:

Adjusting the rotation center

As you can see in the animation the monster is not rotating around its body axis. Thats because his tail is too long. To easily move the rotation center where you want it, use this simple trick: Duplicate your model (Modify > Duplicate) and clear it (Modify > Clear) and then resize it (Modify > Resize), so that – in this case – parts of the tail are cropped.

Resize

Now frame your duplicate with View > Frame Selected Matrix and the animation should rotate in the way you want it.
